This commissioned piece centers on parents whose careers spanned Broadway and Hollywood. His mother’s background as a former singer in a touring trio handed me my featured spokesmodel, while the image on the TV screen references his father’s role as the lead in the Broadway production A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum.
I was given access to their treasured family photo albums, which were full of rich content. During a Q&A session, one sibling learned new details about their parents, while I gained clarity on which stories mattered most to include. I also researched newspaper archives, uncovering period articles and advertisements tied to their careers that they had never seen before.
Because much of the source material was black and white, I colorized select images, reversed pictures, and created composite photos with the goal of producing new imagery that reintroduced familiar photographs in a fresh and engaging way.
